Description:
Obedient plant (Physostegia virginiana), also known as false dragonhead, is a flowering plant in the mint family that is easy to grow and is absolutely stunning. True to its name, the plant's individual flowers are "obedient" and can bend in any direction. These tall, elegant spires bear lovely snapdragon-like flowers upon shiny green foliage. The leaves of this native are supposed to be arrangeable like a pipe cleaner. This perennial is a popular choice for wetland plantings or meadows that have sufficient moisture.
Planting Instructions:
Direct sow obedient plant seeds in late fall, planting just below the surface of the soil. For spring planting, mix Physostegia Virginiana seeds with moist sand and store in the refrigerator for 60 days before planting. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination. This seed can also be started indoors 6-8 weeks before planting in the spring. Water seedlings until they become established. Mature plants also prefer moist soil and will benefit from watering in dry weather.
