The American Legion Poppy, also known as Flanders Poppies or Red Corn Poppies, seeds produce bountiful 3-4" classic red blooms, making them a perfect addition to wildflower mixes and vast, open spaces. These seeds can be sown directly into the garden, mimicking the natural wildflower landscape, yet they remain compact enough for indoor cultivation in planters, baskets, and window boxes. Originating from the wide European meadows, the American Legion corn poppies gained international recognition after WWI, symbolizing the ultimate sacrifice of fallen soldiers. Their vibrant red flowers not only brighten any setting but also carry a deep historical significance, honoring those who have served.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Plant poppies directly outdoors when soil is 50-65°F, either in fall or early spring. Due to their fragile roots, avoid starting indoors. Sow seeds 1/16" deep, spaced 8-12 inches apart or scatter and thin after germination. Keep the soil moist until they sprout.
