Planting Instructions:
White mulberry trees are very fast growers that are not particular about soil type. They will grow in clay, loam or sandy soil, whether it be alkaline or acidic. They prefer full sun, but can grow in part shade. White mulberry cannot tolerate as much shade as the U.S native red mulberry though. Mulberry seeds are dormant and will need the cold of winter or a 60 day cold stratification. The easiest method is to simply soak the seeds and then sow the seeds in the fall just under the soil surface and let Mother Nature naturally wake them up for a spring germination.

To sow at other times of the year, you will need a cold cycle (stratification) to mimic the winter. After the stratification, sow the seeds just under the soil surface and keep the soil moist, but not saturated. Keep the seeds at around 86°F during the day for 8 hours and 70° at night for 16 hours. This is easy to achieve with a heating grow mat. Once the seedlings have sprouted, move them to their own individual pots (4" or larger) being careful not to damage the roots. If there are still frost concerns, continue to use the grow light and heating mat. If there is no frost danger, you can move the pots outdoors to a sunny location. After a year, the seedlings will be large enough to be transplanted to their permanent location.
