Rhododendron, Fortune (Rhododendron fortunei) - 100 Seeds
• Heirloom
• Non-GMO
• Perennial Shrub
• USDA Zones: 5-9
Renowned for its breathtaking large white or pink blooms, the Rhododendron Fortune is not just an heirloom beauty but also the heirloom parent to many popular hybrids, including 'Loderi'. A fragrant gem in any garden, this plant forms clusters that create a luxurious, umbrella-like canopy that can reach 20 feet. In addition to its beauty, it stands strong against cold, proving hardy to -15°F. Perfect as a border, hedge, or a standalone piece, Rhododendron Fortune is both a visual and fragrant delight, guaranteeing a spotlight in any garden setting.
*NOTE: This rhododendron will have a naturally low germination rate of about 30%, so make sure to sow enough seeds to compensate to ensure germination.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Use a sterile seed starting mix. Light is required for germination, so surface sow thinly. Mist water and do not allow to dry out which is often fatal to seeds and is the cause of most germination failures. Cover the container or pot in a plastic bag to create a humid environment. Place in full sun or under grow lamp. You can remove plastic bag once seedlings emerge, but keeping it can help weaker seedlings develop. After the seedlings have their 2nd set of leaves (true leaves), GENTLY transplant into individual pots. Fertilize every 3-4 weeks until the size of a small plant. Harden off before transplanting outdoors. Keep evenly moist through the first growing season.
