The Vitex, also known as Chaste Tree or Texas Lilac, is a stunning heirloom tree renowned for its beautiful blue blooms. Often referred to as Monks Pepper, this plant has been used as a medicinal herb throughout history. Ideal for adding a splash of color to your garden, the Vitex thrives in warmer climates and attracts pollinators with its fragrant flowers. This tree not only enhances garden aesthetics with its vibrant blooms but also provides herbal benefits.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Soak in water for 24 hours. If seeds float, they will be viable. Then cold stratify seeds for 90 days. After stratification, sow the seeds 1/16" deep in full to partial sun, tamp down the soil and mulch the bed to help retain moisture. Can grow up to 7 feet in the first season and most growers will keep it pruned to 10 feet or less in height. Prefers loose, well draining soil, but doesn't like rich soil.
